With this new blog, I want to slowly make my way through past work, as well as new work as some sort of attempt to be able to encapsulate where exactly I am these days. So please bear with me while I fill these first few posts with self-indulgent dribble.

This shoot was done using a flickering strobe light as well as a soft fill. I wanted to use these two seperate lights as binary representatives of the the everflowing, intangible flow of time (the fill light) and our fragmented systematic understanding of time (the strobe). This way, with the slow exposures, I could capture the flow and blur of the figure’s movement, as well as the frozen divisions within it that enable our minds to discern between the milliseconds. This created many frames with the frame, and an ambiguity of time.
This work is particularly influence by my explorations into experimental film, particularly the work of Stan Brackhage and Man Ray, and my constant grapple with a stunted sensory system. These shots were also projected in sequence as a exploration of the gestalt in my film, and this blog’s namesake; thespacebetween.

hooding the shell up over

tucking the frame down under

amongst the radiowaves

ears refuse sound

toes exclude the earth

I denies the space between

wrists repel hairs

so I pluck out each invading thread

frames cross my heart

needles prick my I
